Keep in mind that finding and on campus job as an international is not the easiest task to accomplish. There are two possible work statuses that you as a foreigner may have at your school.
Work-study status is given to you upon acceptance to the university possibly built in to you financial aid package. This status allows you to work on campus and gives you priority over those students with Non-work study status. It means that certain jobs on campus may be reserved for work-study students only and that you are welcome to apply for them.
Non-work study status basically means that the school is not obligated to make jobs available for you as part as your financial aid. So it means that when you are looking for a job on campus you are only eligible for the Non-Work Study jobs or those that are offered for students both statuses.

What you want to do as a first year student is ask around early on during your orientation week to see if there are any jobs available and where you can go to find out. Many positions specifically ask for first year students and are even reserved for them.
If you are not a first year student you still must look ahead of time and search for a job in the first two weeks of school, the earlier the better. You may even ask around spring semester to see if there are already openings for the fall. Also there might be a place designated to job listings on your schools webpage. Once you decide on the place you want to apply for work call the office or stop by to find out about filling an application form.
