Once you have filled out all the paperwork, your university will be able to put your data on payroll and you will be all set for working. You must however remember that all people living in the U.S. have to file a tax return form. If you are not employed you still have to fill a form, that you can fill out online, print and mail. This form is due in the month of June but your universitys international affairs office should talk about it with you or send you the link months in advance.
If you are employed, you must fill another type of form that usually your university will mail you in which you have to fill another kind of paperwork. My university sells a software for $5.00 that calculates your taxes, work status, etc. This is if you received a payment for any work performed during the past year say if I worked during 2008 I will file my tax form by April of 2009 and so it goes, what I was paid in 2009 will not be filed until April 2010.
Now, how do you get a job on campus and what jobs are available? The types of jobs offered on campus vary between universities. There are the types of office jobs where you will end up handling the reception calls, filing papers, running errands, etc. These could be found at the Admissions Office, Cashier, Student Records Office, the Library Desk, or the department offices of each Academic Department on campus. Other types of jobs available on campus range from jobs as Computer and or Science Lab technicians, to working the register at the Cafeteria, being a Resident Advisor, serving as a Peer Learning Assistant, or a Teacher Assistant.
